Where Are They Now: Lichelle Laws A.K.A Female Rapper – Boss

Female gangsta rap trailblazer Lichelle Laws born in Detroit, Michigan in 1969, always wanted to rap, and was fiercely committed to it. Every hormone in her body screamed the desire. And, according to those who remember her in the late ’80s Detroit rap scene, she was destined for stardom. Laws relocated to Los Angeles after graduating high school and was later spotted by DJ Quik who stuck her on a track with AMG.
Russell Simmons liked the track and promptly signed her to Def Jam West. With the added assistance from her friend Irene Moore – (female DJ, Dee) they became known as Boss. The debut album Born Gangstaz, released in 1993 spawned a string of hits and saw both the single “Deeper” and the follow-up single “Recipe of a Hoe” move straight to #1 on Billboard’s Hot Rap Tracks Charts.
Later Boss and DJ Dee (who completed the duo) parted ways. Laws later settled in a Dallas suburb, became a mother and a radio host with her husband on K104.
In 2004, she hooked up with Def Jam again to collaborate on what they titled “The Six Million Dollar Mixtape” and rumor has it that the most missed female rapper of all time, is currently working on a third LP entitled, “American STREET-Heart”.
